Using MiserMail to Remove Pornography

MiserMail is especially suited to removing pornography for five
reasons: 1) The email program and spam filter are truly integrated so
that we could make sure the user will not see porn in either place, 2)
MiserMail can be tweaked to remove 99% - 99.9% of spam or more for
recommended user profiles, 3) It is currently the only program that
can do that, 4) It identifies porn even more effectively than other
types of spam, and 5) As part of development, we at Micromiser were
determined to remove all porn from our email for personal reasons.

MiserMail includes porn filtering internally so that you do not need
to enter pornographic content in "blacklists" or other types of
interface items. All the porn-filtering stuff is buried in the
programming code and thus unseen.

If you want to eliminate porn to protect children, even one
pornographic spam is one too many. MiserMail can be configured to
remove all spam. But that is not really necessary to remove porn, and
it would require more recontact requests than are usually desirable.

More precisely

At Micromiser we have set the filter to remove about 999 out of 1,000
spams, since this results in an acceptable level of recontact requests
for us. Since no pornographic spam has gotten thru, we haven't had
enough samples to determine its removal rate at this level of
"aggressiveness." But we do note the number of filter elements tripped
in each pornographic spam and can estimate how many it will take for
"no filters" to be tripped. We estimate that the porn removal rate
will be at least ten times that of all spam removal, resulting in less
than one pornographic spam in 10,000 messages. That is close enough to
"All" for us. It would take most children over a year to receive that
many messages, probably many years.

Three methods to eliminate porn

There is one configuration that will remove enough spam so that you
won't see any porn utilizing recontact requests, one where the adult
(using any email program) will see a much reduced amount but the child
using MiserMail won't without utilizing recontact requests, and one
configuration to remove all spam and thus all porn without recontact
requests, but where all new correspondents must be approved. None of
the three configurations result in losing wanted messages.
